The table of contents helps the reader to navigate easily in the document. Besides it makes the document more reader friendly. The table of contents directs the reader to the place where they wanted to be in the document, apart from that it also helps the reader to easily identify and edit the document.

Creating a table of contents in Microsoft Word is a simple two step process. First step is identifying the text that has to be converted into table of contents and the second step is to insert the table of contents.

  • Now in that word document, place the cursor on the text where you want to add the table of contents.
  • After placing the cursor, now select the default table of contents from the main menu( Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3, etc).

  • Upon clicking on the modify option you will be directed to the modify window where you can change the font style, font size etc of the table of content and you can update it and save it for further documents too.
